Cold outreach for exporters: the U.S. market edition

Cold email still works in U.S. B2B — but the version that works looks nothing like the mass blasts that gave it a bad name. For exporters, four things change at the border.

The legal baseline is different

U.S. B2B cold email is legal under CAN-SPAM: identify yourself truthfully, include a physical mailing address, honor unsubscribes within ten days, never use deceptive subject lines. That is a workable baseline — stricter regimes like the EU and Canada effectively require prior consent, which is why serious vendors scope cold-outreach lists to the U.S.

Tone: shorter and plainer than feels safe

Formal openings read as templates to American buyers. Two sentences of who you are, one sentence of why this specific company, one soft ask. Under 90 words. If your email needs a scroll, it needs an edit.

Sender setup decides half the outcome

Send from a dedicated subdomain, warmed up over weeks, authenticated with SPF, DKIM and DMARC. Never from your main company domain — one bad campaign can follow your real correspondence for months. Volume ramps slowly: dozens per day at first, not hundreds.

The follow-up is the campaign

Single-touch campaigns waste the list. Three to four touches, days apart, each adding something new — a relevant product line, a question about their sourcing calendar. Most positive replies arrive after touch two.

Caliradi drafts researched, compliant outreach in your voice — up to 100 campaigns a month on Pro, every send waiting on your approval.
